Kastro and Artemonas: two ways of looking out towards the sea.

The journey began in Hamburg on 7 June, continued through Athens and Piraeus, and reached Kamares the following day. Kastro provided the first base; on 11 June, the stay moved to Artemonas.

Days unfolded through village streets, stepped paths and viewpoints: the passages of Kastro, a visit to its archaeological museum, the mills and older houses of Artemonas, and walks through Apollonia and the Petali settlements. Photography and film followed the changing relationship between stone, white surfaces and the sea.

The city was part of the journey, again and again.

Between island crossings and time on the Peloponnese, Athens became a recurring place to walk, read, work and look. Streets and small passages, public art and cultural spaces formed a different rhythm from the days at sea.

A visit to the Elytis Museum on 2 July was followed, on 7 July, by time at the National Library and the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center. Books, long windows and a view across the city offered another scale of attention. Later visits returned to the canal and its changing evening light.

The city also opened towards the coast. Alimos and the marina connected these urban days with the voyages; a dry-dock visit on 9 July brought the hull and its working surroundings into view. Athens was a place of return as well as departure.

Narrow passages and contemporary murals share the same field of vision. The photographs follow their differences without turning them into a single, continuous walk.

The National Library and the view from the SNFCC brought reading and the wider city into the same day.

Canal, coast and marina form distinct edges of the city. The marina photograph from 24 July belongs to the evening before SAR0725 began.

Another sea each time.

Three separate voyages from Alimos. Repeated places become different journeys as the wind, the time of day and the approach change.

SAR0711 / 11–17 JULY 2026

The first Saronic passage

An evening departure from Alimos led to Agia Marina on Aegina. The following days moved through Kipoi and Poros towards Tselevinia, Dokos and the deep bay of Mandraki on Hydra. Spetses brought another encounter with the island streets before the final night at Yerolimenas on Poros.

At Dokos, the stillness of Ormos Skindos gave the voyage a different tempo. The passage alternated between the activity of harbours and quieter nights at anchor, returning to Alimos on 17 July.

The islands, revisited

The second July voyage began on 25 July, with a night passage from Alimos to Agia Marina. Poros, Hydra and Spetses returned to the itinerary, this time aboard a catamaran. Mandraki provided the Hydra anchorage; the onward route included Kounoupi and the bays around Spetses.

Changing conditions shaped the later stages. On 30 July, the yacht moved from Dapia to the shelter of Porto Heli, then continued via Dokos towards Poros. The final passage to Alimos followed on 31 July.

An August circuit

A third departure from Alimos opened with Agia Marina, followed by Moni and Poros. The route continued to Hydra, Spetses and Dokos before returning through Poros to the mainland.

The sequence gave each island its own day and approach. On 28 August, the last anchorage near Poros gave way to the crossing back to Alimos, closing the summer’s three Saronic voyages.

The coast,
from the land.

Koroni, Methoni and the landscapes between.

The Peloponnese journey began by bus from Athens to Kalamata on 7 August, continuing to Faneromeni near Koroni. From this base, the days opened onto coastal settlements, bays, fortress spaces and an inland gorge.

Repeated visits to Methoni made room for looking again: walking through the fortress, filming its spaces and exploring the relationship between its surviving forms and the sea. Tsapi and Finikounda offered another coastal rhythm; Polilimnio introduced a landscape of stone and water away from the shoreline.

Ways of looking.

01 / STONE

Architecture as a passage

On Sifnos, a wall, a stair and a turn in the lane change the field of vision. In Methoni, the larger spaces of the fortress offer a different scale of walking and looking.

02 / WATER

An island has several arrivals

A harbour, an anchorage and a path from the shore reveal different parts of a place. The repeated Saronic routes made these differences visible.

03 / MOVEMENT

Image-making on the move

Walking, navigating and filming ask for different kinds of attention. The visual work of this summer grew from moving between them: village explorations, sea passages and time spent observing from shore.

07 / Future horizonsAEGEAN CODE ENTERPRISE / CONCEPT IN DEVELOPMENT

From journeys
to lasting forms.

The journeys leave material to work with: photographs, moving images, routes and observations.

AEGEAN CODE explores how that material might become visual essays, publications and carefully shaped creative encounters around place and travel. A possible future direction brings maritime practice into conversation with cultural exploration and image-making.

This remains a developing concept. No travel programme or commercial offer is currently presented here.
